Hi Debbie,

Actually this program could really help IBS. I would remove common allergens as well (see the allergy elimination diet on this page: I'm Allergic to Everything.

Dr. Scott -
Thank you very much for clarifying. I certainly intend to stay as clean as possible, but hoped to reintroduce some grains, etc after the 30 days. I just wanted to be prepared for the potential results of that reintroduction and I greatly appreciate you helping with that!

Best,
Kim

Kim,

After staying away from sugar, your body will handle the rise in blood sugar better. In scientific terms, you will have reduced your insulin sensitivity. The problem is that your brain works differently. The second you reintroduce sugar, your cravings will come screaming back (very much like an alcohol who has stayed away from alcohol and then decides he can handle just one drink and then ends up drinking the whole bottle).

Having said that, I would say that most people who go on the program go back to some sort of sugar eating. The last few e-mails deal with how to make the transition. I would also hope that people return to the program time and time again, because they learn something new every time and learn how to eat in a sugar-infested world to best protect their health.

Hello -
Just curious if you have any commentary on what might happen to a body after being sugar free for 30 days -- specifically will the metabolism react differently to sugar/sugar-like foods when reintroduced to the diet (even in moderation)? While I'm enjoying the program and agree with it I intend to reintroduce some sugars to my diet after the sugar fast as such I'd like to know if I'm setting myself up for failure in doing a full 30 day fast.

Thanks for clarifying,
Kim

Hi John,

Coconut milk is high in fat, but the fat is a medium chain triglyceride. These types of fats are shunted to energy in your body and not turned into fat. There are no tortilla shells that are low or below (I wish there were!).

Good luck with the program,

Scott

About to start the 30 day diet. The fruit smoothie looks good, but is coconut milk ok if I need to lose weight?

Also the fajita recipe does not show tortilla shell. May be stupid question, but is there a tortilla shell that is low or below?

Thanks!

Janice,

Deciding what to eat after the program is a difficult decision. My suggestion is to try one food at a time and see how you feel. I would suggest that you work hard to balance your meals like the last few e-mails suggest and never go back to eating carbohydrates alone.

Meera,

Yes, eating dal everyday sounds okay. I actually support a non-grain, mostly vegan diet.

Good luck!
