New drugs are released all the time, usually to much fanfare and hype. The new drug often sound like a miracle: it works better than an old drug, it has less side effects, it will cure an incurable disease… While the hype surrounding a new drug almost always makes the drug sound great, the reality is that few drugs ever live up to their hype.

Our Faith in Medicine: Misplaced

This assumption, that science will discover all the answers to our health problems, crops up in all sorts of areas. Our faith in medicine is, for example, the reason why some dying people are willing to undergo experiments that might not help them, but might help someone in the future.

Just Give Me a Pill!

Do you want to take a pill to fix your heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, migraines, insomnia, or even your problem with weight? If you are like most people, you answer yes to that question (even if you won't admit to yourself). Heck, who wouldn't? A pill solution to health problems is a tantalizing and attractive proposition. The problem, though, with many pill-solutions (both natural and pharmacological) is that they are not real solutions, only temporary bandages that only cover up the problem rather than truly helping.
