Melissa,

What you are experiencing is not that out of the ordinary, although feeling like you were going to pass out is of concern. I would slow down your transition to a sugar-free life by first eliminating all obvious sugar (soda, cookies, cakes...) and see how it goes. From there, you can move to eliminating foods that act like sugar.

If you have cravings for bananas and sweet potatoes, I would say go ahead and eat them, even though there are fairly high on the glycemic index. The most important thing is to continue to breast feed.

I wanted to try the 30 days sugar free but I did a trial run of it and felt horrible. I am exclusively breastfeeding a 5 month old and when I tried to eliminate sugar from my diet, I felt weak, dizzy and lethargic. It really felt like I was going to pass out. Is this normal? Is it a bad idea to try to eliminate sugar while breastfeeding? I thought that it would be a good idea as obviously sugar is not the most nutritious thing to have in his milk but I just couldn't make it work.

Any thoughts? Also, as a side note, I really crave bananas, sweet potatoes, etc and I have not previously even liked these foods.
